Ski RoundTop's snow making is in full operation because of the expertise of Structural Preservation Systems' (SPS) GeoStructural Division.
The snowmaking depends on a functional water reservoir, but Ski RoundTop's had a densely fractured zone of sandstone that was causing water to leak. SPS was called in and installed a grout curtain as a turnkey solution for the water loss at the upland side the supply reservoir.
From the dam crest, SPS installed the grout curtain through the core of the dam and into bedrock. Twenty-seven 5½-inch diameter primary and secondary grout holes were installed along this alignment. Primary holes were placed on 15-foot centers with depths ranging between 40 and 70-feet. Grout holes were flushed and grouted using a stable colloidal mixed cement-suspension grout designed by SPS.
SPS completed this project in less than 2 weeks. Final drilling and grouting quantities exceeded 1,700 linear feet drilled and 1,500 gallons of grout material installed.
