42nd Street Micropiles
New York, New York

Structural Preservation Systems' (SPS) GeoStructural Division was retained to install 7-inch diameter, drilled, rocksocketed micropiles for the foundation of a 9-story building with an 18-story central core.

The site was located on the north side of 42nd Street, between 10th and 11th Avenue, in Manhattan. The new building - a reinforced concrete building with a full cellar - will be residential, with retail stores located on the first floor. The basement will cover the entire site, 75 feet by 100 feet, and the first floor of the building will be set back 30 feet from the rear property line.

Site access was very limited due to constraints with the ramp from the street and adjacent structures.
